Kevin Gates is a popular American rapper. He was born on February 5 in 1986 in New Orleans (Louisiana). His height is about 188 centimeters and weighs 70 kilograms. The real name is Kevin Jerome Gillard.

Kevin’s childhood passed in Baton Rouge, where his parents moved immediately after his birth. There he spent most of his life and was even able to connect with the criminal world. By his nature, he was very active and restless, so parents more than once had to pay for his antics. At the age of 13, he was even arrested for hooliganism. He often disappeared on the street with not quite a good company. He studied poorly at school, as he did not show any interest in science, only at the insistence of his parents tried to study at a college in Baton Rouge. True, he did not last long there, since he began his work as a music performer.

We can say that the young years at Kevin Gates passed quite rapidly, as is usually the case with future rappers. Perhaps this is what prompts them to connect with the more creative side of life. Also, Kevin has African American and Puerto Rican roots.

The beginning of a musical career

Kevin Gates began his career in 2005 after signing a contract with the record company Dead Game Records, which was located in Baton Rouge. He teamed up with Torrens Hatch (better known as Boosie Badazz) and Webster Gardney (also known as Webbie.) Together they release their mixtape “Pack of Da Littler” in 2007. Their second mixtape, All or Nothing, is coming out in 2008.

Unfortunately, by that time, Kevin had some problems with the law and had to spend about two years in a correctional prison. During this period, he began his studies and received a master's degree in psychology as part of the prison education program. Thanks to Kevin’s exemplary behavior, they are soon released ahead of schedule. Immediately after his release, he begins his solo career. He was able to release the mixtape “Make Em Believe,” which ultimately did not bring its owner any fame.

Further success

In 2014, Kevin Gates released the next single, “By Any Means.” He was able to win 17th place on the Billboard 200. This was followed by other hits that could glorify the novice rapper and allow showing himself as a talented and independent performer. His work received mostly positive reviews.

In the winter of that year, Luka Brasi 2, another commercially successful mixtape, was released. It was released through its independent label Bread Winners and Atlantic Records. About 83 thousand copies were sold within a month.

His debut album, Islah, released in January 2016. He became a real hit and finished second in the Billboard 200. Over one hundred thousand copies were sold in the first week.

Relations

He married his girlfriend Dreka Haines in 2015. The couple has two children, a son of Haz and a daughter of Isla.

The couple converted to Islam and went to Mecca for the Hajj in 2016.

Over the years, he has repeatedly participated in numerous conflicts. He received many negative comments for confessing in a sexual relationship with his cousin. Also, fans condemned him for the fact that at one of his concerts in 2015, Kevin roughly grabbed one of the fans by the chest.
