YBN Nahmir was born on December 18, 1999, in Birmingham, Alabama. Simmons was raised in the house with his mother, cousins ​​, and aunt. His older brothers and his cousins ​​usually took part in criminal acts that influenced the growth of Simmons. Nick attended Clay-Chalkville High School, although he was pulled out after the success of Rubbin Off the Paint.

Nick's interest in music began when he was fourteen and was donated to the Xbox 360 for Christmas. Namir started to play the Rock Band video game (which he later used to record his first song.) And eventually moved on to Grand Theft Auto V, and then began recording videos on YouTube. At one time, playing Grand Theft Auto V, Simmons became a freestyler at Xbox Live parties and, together with friends, created the YBN ("Young Boss Niggas") team. Before producing his music, Simmons listened to a rapper in San Francisco, such as the E-40.

Nick uploaded his first song on YouTube when he turned fifteen with a member of YBN, YBN Almighty Jay. A song called "Hood Mentality" was downloaded on March 21, 2015, for almost any occasion. Namir uploaded a few more songs to YouTube before releasing his first mixtape on January 2, 2017 called Believe In The Glo on Soundcloud. Simmons uploaded his second mixtape to SoundCloud on January 21, 2017. The first song Namir released, which received more than fifty thousand plays on Soundcloud, was called "Why."

Simmons released Rubbin off the paint on September 18, 2017, on the WorldStarHipHop YouTube channel. The song quickly became viral. Nick explained it as "bloating overnight." After the success of the song, he was dropped out of school due to his exceptional popularity and was forced to start online classes. The song debuted at 79 on the Billboard Hot 100 and peaked at 46.

In November 2017, he became involved in controversy after the label announced his song after his manager sold the instrumental song to a "third party." In response, Simmons now has his producer for his songs, which is a member of the YBN team. Nick released six more tracks in 2017.

On January 23, 2018, Namir released Bounce Out With That on the YouTube channel Lyrical Lemonade. The song was unavailable in streaming services for three days after the release of the music video. The song has accumulated over 12 million views on YouTube a week after its release.

In April 2018, he signed a contract with Atlantic Records.

Nick lists his main influences as rappers from San Francisco Bay, such as the E-40. Speaking about his powers in an interview with Billboard, Simmons stated that the absence of significant rappers from Birmingham, Alabama, made him listen to more West Coast artists such as Eazy-E and Tupac.

Fader compared Namir's style to Bay Area rappers, saying his rap stream and slang influence and sound like artists from the San Francisco Bay. Speaking of his style, Simmons said: "I'm not a muttering rapper, I am telling the facts. Lil Uzi Vert and Playboi Carti say it's hot shit. This is Atlanta style, and my sound is inventive."

He currently lives in Los Angeles, California. Speaking of studying in high school, he says that since he left traditional high school, he has since lagged in his online classes, but he still plans to graduate. He will graduate from Clay-Chalkville High School in May 2018.
